Fall and Holiday Portraits on Long Island

October 27, 2020  •  Leave a Comment

We’ve had beautiful spring and summer days here on Long Island, though for many, autumn is their favorite time of year. Cooler days, gorgeous colors (both in the trees and in their warm, cozy sweaters), pumpkin and apple picking jaunts, and looking forward to the grand holidays! Yay! It’s the last week of October and I’m wondering what this year’s fall foliage is thinking. I took an iphone photo this morning of one area of the garden – the burning bushes aren’t even fully red, unusual for this time. But no worries, the garden has many nooks and crannies for beautiful portraits as you can see in this little composite of images made in other years during the fall (some in-studio as well).

Timing is perfect for family and children’s portraits now, and the sooner we get them photographed, the sooner they’ll be ready for gift giving and to refresh your own walls with timeless and painterly portraits.

A few tips for outdoor fall portrait sessions: If it’s a bit chilly, dress the children first in thermal underwear; it’s thin and hides well under their fall outfits. Various color palettes work great in the fall, e.g. burgundy, gold, beige, mustard, rust, warm browns, and, of course, denim!

Shoot me an email with any questions you may have and to schedule your own custom portrait session before all the afternoons are taken! Of course, in-studio sessions are also available, and just as gorgeous!
