Mentoring, Teaching, and More

From being fascinated with the printed image at seven, to celebrating 40 years in the portrait studio… A few key moments ~

  • Circa 1965 ~ Created first portrait with b&w film and Argoflex Seventy-Five camera at the age of 15
  • 1984 ~ Opened June Jacobsen Portrait Studio on Long Island, NY
  • 1986 ~ Graduated New York Institute of Photography
  • 2000 ~ Earned the Master Photographer Degree from the PPA
  • 1997 thru 2000 ~ 4-Time Winner of the ‘Top Portrait Photographer of the Year Award’ from the Professional Photographers of Greater New York (PPGNY)
  • 2024 ~ Celebrating 40 Years of ‘Creating Portraits with the Essence of a Painting and the Reality of a Photograph’
  • Covering a few decades ~ Travelled to All 7 Continents (about 40 countries) to photograph wildlife, track Mountain Gorillas in Rwanda, swim with Humpback Whales in Tonga, dive with Bull Sharks in Fiji, and plenty more = )

So what’s going on now? Summertime and the living is easy, sort of. Sessions out in the garden are special, but trickier than in-studio, and I have a LOT of tips and tricks for those who wish to create more artistic, painterly, and classic portraits, despite the challenging conditions of outdoors. Besides shooting sessions, I’m offering a variety of training, mentoring, teaching sessions, which I’ll explain more in the coming days.

One of the teaching methods will be ‘In-studio Coached Sessions’. If you are a photographer of any skill level and feel you would like to level up your sessions, and you have a child/children/adult who you would like to photograph in my studio, with your camera, my lights and props, etc., then be in touch and let’s talk about planning such a session. The cost for a 2-hour portrait session is $250. I am there to help with lighting, give instruction where you need it, answer questions, work on beautiful posing, the goal being to create what I call a ‘Wall Worthy Piece of Art’, not a nice snapshot that only looks good as an 8x10, or worse yet, stuck on your phone or in the cloud, whatever that is. (#PrintYourPictures = ).

Another type of help session will be Edit Sit-Downs ~ working on your photos, start to finish in Lightroom and Photoshop.

That’s all for now, please be in touch via my email, just to get the conversation started. Talk soon! = )
