New Pricing StructureI know the revolution is over (bear with me). The digital one. In the words of Life of Riley’s Chester, “What a revoltin’ development this is!” And still when it started and got on a roll, we didn’t really know how severe/extensive/rearranging it would be and the paths it would drive us. So the past 20 years is the story, and since I’ve been in the portrait business for 40 years, that’s a pretty big chunk of time. Leaving this behind for now, I’m just writing this post today to mention a change in my pricing structure. I've now posted the new collections on my Pricing page on this website. Check it out!
Portrait work from start to glorious finish is very time consuming, i.e. labor intensive, and the client knows very little of the time spent ‘behind the curtain’. After the initial consult, I spend time planning the session and styling the set. After the session I clean up, download the images, do the post processing, and create a gallery for the client to view online and to share with family and friends. The real time for one client is at least 10 hours before they see their proofs. Then, they can either choose the images that I will do the artwork on from the gallery, or come in to the studio and we'll view the images together as I guide them in choosing the best, discuss retouching, artwork, and if there will be any swaps, i.e. swapping heads from one image to another in the case of groupings that simply would benefit with some more extensive artwork for a perfect result.
Today everyone wants ‘all the files’. It’s definitely a new way of thinking about photos. They rarely print their pictures, yet another issue with which I wrangle. They have a billion photos swept up into the ‘cloud’, and I have a sneaking suspicion that some really think it’s a cloud, rather than mega-story data centers in cities all over the world. Be that as it may, the collections include digital files, small corresponding prints, and two groupings include a finished portrait in a larger size. Please check it out on the Pricing page under 'More Info'. Stay tuned, looking forward to seeing your smiling faces in my studio!
