The snow is merely in patches here on Long Island, Spring pops in a few short weeks, and then the race is on! To trim the garden (a very large tree fell) and make ready for outdoor portraits starting around mid-May. Though most (99%) of my clients prefer in-studio sessions when it comes to Communion Portraits; classic, formal, painterly... gorgeous = ).

A side note; January marked the 40th year since the studio opened in January 1984. I applied for the DBA for June Jacobsen Portrait the first day the county office opened after New Year's Day. What is it we often say? "I could write a book". = )

So, Communion Portraits! It’s the combination of great lighting, appropriate propping and background, excellent posing, and directing the expression of the child that produces images that are what I call… Wall Worthy, and not just 8x10s (or social media, yikes!). They are painterly, artistic, evocative; perfectly creating a piece of art to commemorate this milestone in your child’s life.

Most of my clients prefer the look and styling of in-studio portraits for this event. A few over the years have chosen to work out in the garden later on in Spring or Summer for a more casual look. Either is fine by me, and the outdoor sessions typically begin in late May, as the garden and greenery are coming into their own by then.
